Used Kia Ceed

The Kia Ceed is a five-door family hatchback built on common sense: roomy, well equipped and easy to live with. On the used market you'll mostly find two generations: the second (2012 to 2018) and the third, launched in 2018 and facelifted in 2021. There's also the Ceed SW estate, handy for a family, and the ProCeed, an estate with a coupé-style roofline.

Petrol engines dominate, with the 1.0 T-GDi and the 1.4 and later 1.5 T-GDi, paired with a manual or a dual-clutch automatic. The 1.6 CRDi diesel still makes sense if you drive a lot, and recent versions add mild-hybrid assistance. The Ceed SW was also sold as a plug-in hybrid.

Its big used-car advantage is Kia's 7-year or 150,000 km warranty, which stays with the car from one owner to the next as long as it was serviced to the manufacturer's schedule. A recent Ceed can still be covered, so ask for the service book and check the date of first registration.

Before you buy, check:

• a Car-Pass less than two months old, verified with its QR code;
• the Euro standard of a diesel if you drive in Brussels, Antwerp or Ghent;
• how the automatic gearbox shifts, during a test drive of at least 20 minutes;
• battery health on the Car-Pass for a plug-in hybrid.
