Used Volkswagen Tiguan

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a roomy family SUV, comfortable on long trips and at ease towing a trailer or caravan. Used, you'll mostly find the second generation (2016 to 2023, facelifted in 2020) and its long Allspace version, which can seat seven. The third generation arrived in 2024.

Engines include 1.4 then 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TSI petrols, very common 2.0 TDI diesels and, since 2021, an eHybrid plug-in hybrid. 4Motion all-wheel drive is common on the more powerful versions, as is the DSG automatic gearbox.

The Tiguan is a very common company car in Belgium. Many come onto the market with high mileage but a dealer service history. Don't rule out high mileage on principle: ask for the invoices instead, and look at the car's actual condition.

Before you buy, check:

• the Euro standard on the Car-Pass: a Euro 5 diesel is banned in Brussels;
• the tow bar, and the clutch or gearbox, if the car has done a lot of towing;
• battery health on the Car-Pass for an eHybrid;
• the third-row seats on a seven-seat Allspace;
• a test drive of at least 20 minutes, including a cold start.

A well-kept Tiguan remains a safe choice for a family that drives a lot.
