Used Volkswagen T-Roc

The Volkswagen T-Roc is a compact SUV with sportier styling than the Golf, whose underpinnings it shares. It appeals to people who want some extra height and a car that stands out a little, without going up to Tiguan size. It was launched in late 2017 and facelifted in 2022. There's also a convertible, sold since 2020, and the sporty T-Roc R.

Engines range from the 1.0 TSI three-cylinder to the 2.0 TSI, with 1.5 TSI versions in between, plus 1.6 and 2.0 TDI diesels. Some versions have 4Motion all-wheel drive. Many come with the DSG automatic gearbox.

The T-Roc sold very well in Belgium, including as a company car. So you have plenty of choice, but also big differences in mileage. A high-mileage company diesel serviced at the dealer can still be a good deal, as long as you get the invoices and the right Euro standard for where you drive.

Before you buy, check:

• the Euro standard on the Car-Pass if it's a diesel and you drive in Brussels;
• the DSG gearbox's service history and how it behaves on the test drive;
• on a convertible: the soft top, the seals and any sign of damp inside;
• an insurance quote for a T-Roc R or a 2.0 TSI.
