The Volkswagen T-Cross is the brand's small SUV, derived from the Polo. It gives you a high driving position and a clever interior, with a sliding rear bench that lets you trade legroom for boot space. It suits a young family or someone who mostly drives in town. It was launched in 2019 and facelifted in 2024.
Most cars use the 1.0 TSI three-cylinder, with a manual or DSG automatic gearbox. A more powerful 1.5 TSI and a 1.6 TDI diesel were also sold, but they're rarer. The T-Cross is front-wheel drive only: there's no 4x4 version.
Because it's recent, the used offer includes many dealer cars, some still under warranty. From a dealer you get a legal warranty of one to two years. In a private sale, you're only protected against serious hidden defects.
Before you buy, check:
- a Car-Pass less than two months old, and mileage that matches the condition of the interior;
- that the sliding bench and folding seats work properly;
- how the DSG gearbox behaves during a test drive of at least 20 minutes;
- the wheels and bumpers, which take a beating in town.
A practical, frugal small SUV: the T-Cross is a good choice when its history is complete.
