The Seat Ateca is a compact family SUV built on the same technical base as several Volkswagen Group SUVs. It suits families who want a generous boot, a high driving position and a size that stays easy in town. It also appeals to anyone after a well-equipped SUV without paying for a premium badge.
A single generation, launched in 2016 and facelifted in 2020, covers the used market. On the petrol side you will mostly find the 1.0 TSI three-cylinder and the 1.5 TSI. On the diesel side, the 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI, the latter sometimes with 4Drive all-wheel drive. The DSG automatic gearbox is common. The sporty version is sold as the Cupra Ateca.
What to check before buying
- A Car-Pass less than two months old, verified by QR code, and the Euro 6 standard on a diesel if you drive into Brussels.
- The service history of the DSG gearbox, and smooth shifts on the test drive.
- The wheels, sills and underbody if the seller mentions dirt roads or off-road use.
- On a 4Drive, any towbar and what it pulled.
A family SUV gets loaded up: check the rear seats and boot too, they often tell you how the car has been used.
