The Clio is one of Europe's best-selling small cars, which makes it a safe bet used: plenty of choice and parts that are easy to find. It suits a first car, city driving or a couple who drive a bit of everything, with five doors and a decent boot for its class.
The Clio IV (2012-2019) comes with 0.9 TCe and 1.2 petrol engines, the 1.5 dCi diesel, and also as an estate. The EDC dual-clutch automatic is available on some versions. The Clio V (since 2019, facelifted in 2023) has a more modern cabin, with the 1.0 TCe petrol engine and the E-Tech hybrid, a good choice if you drive a lot in town.
What to check before buying
- A Car-Pass less than two months old, verified by QR code, with mileage that adds up.
- On a 1.5 dCi diesel, the Euro standard: a Euro 5 diesel is banned from the Brussels LEZ.
- When the timing belt was last replaced, if the engine has one, with the invoice.
- On an EDC gearbox, clean shifts both cold and warm.
