The GLC is Mercedes' family SUV, the taller cousin of the C-Class. It suits families who want space, a high driving position and good towing ability. There is also a GLC Coupé, with a sleeker roofline but a smaller boot and less rear headroom.
Used, you will mostly find the first-generation X253 (2015-2022): mostly diesels, led by the 220 d, some petrol versions, and plug-in hybrids (the 350 e, then the 300 e after the facelift). 4MATIC all-wheel drive is very common. The second-generation X254 (since 2022) is electrified across the range, with plug-in hybrids that go further on electric power. As with the C-Class, many cars come from company fleets.
What to check before buying
- A Car-Pass less than two months old, verified by QR code, and the dealer service history.
- If a towbar is fitted, ask what it pulled: a light trailer and a caravan do not cause the same wear.
- On a plug-in hybrid, the battery health when the Car-Pass shows it, the charging cables and a test in electric mode.
- On a diesel, the Euro 6 standard if you drive into Brussels.
