The C-Class is Mercedes' comfortable mid-size car. In Belgium, many used examples come from leasing or company fleets: often well maintained, but with high mileage. It suits drivers who spend a lot of time on the motorway and want comfort, as a saloon or an estate.
Two generations dominate the market. The W205 (2014-2021) comes with petrol engines (C 180, C 200), diesels (C 200 d, C 220 d) and as a plug-in hybrid (C 300 e, C 350 e). The W206 (since 2021) moves to electrified four-cylinder engines, with a bigger central screen and a plug-in hybrid with a much longer electric range. An automatic gearbox is standard on both generations.
What to check before buying
- The full service history: a company car is often serviced at the dealer, so ask for the invoices.
- A Car-Pass less than two months old and its QR code: compare the mileage with wear on the steering wheel, seat and pedals.
- On a diesel, the Euro 6 standard if you drive in Brussels, where the LEZ bans Euro 5.
- On a plug-in hybrid, the battery health when the Car-Pass shows it, and a test in electric mode.
Take a test drive of at least 20 minutes, in town and on a fast road, to judge the gearbox and any suspension noise.
